Pneumococcal Vaccination in Adults in Switzerland: An Analysis of Age and Regional Differences in Vaccine Coverage and Risk Factors for Pneumococcal Infection

Relatively little is known regarding adult pneumococcal vaccine coverage in Switzerland and what factors affect vaccine uptake. This study will assess nationwide vaccine coverage, providing both estimates for total coverage, as well as for the use of specific vaccine formulations, by age, gender and region. Importantly, we will also determine coverage among ‘at risk’ individuals and evaluate factors which influence pneumococcal vaccination in these groups. The results of this study will provide information, which can be used to assess the risk of the population and to develop targeted campaigns to promote vaccination among appropriate groups.
