Consumption of Sugar Sweetened Beverages (SSB) across socio- demographic groups in Switzerland

The aim of the thesis is to identify the socio-demographic factors that are associated with the consumption of SSB in Switzerland in order to assess inequalities in the consumption of SSB across socio-demographic groups possibly revealing potential for public health interventions. The thesis will include a literature review on policy interventions that have been implemented in different countries to decrease the consumption of SSB. Estimates on the average consumption of SSB by the different sociodemographic characteristics. Estimates on the contribution of SSB to total sugar, energy intake and water. Estimates on the sociodemographic and lifestyle factors associated with the consumption of SSB. Identification of populations at risk of consuming SSB that could benefit from targeted policies in Switzerland. Identification of policy interventions that could reduce the consumption of SSB. The research questions are:

  1. What are the average daily intakes of SSB by socio-demographic characteristics?
  2. Which socio-demographic and lifestyle factors are
associated with the consumption of SSB in Switzerland?
  3. Are there inequalities in the consumption
    of SSB across socio-demographic groups?
  4. Which policy interventions could be applied
to reduce the consumption of SSB in Switzerland?
