Occupational and Environmental Medicine

The Division of Occupational and Environmental Medicine is jointly supported by the Epidemiology, Biostatistics, and Prevention Institute and the University Hospital Zurich outpatient clinic for internal medicine.

When a person becomes ill because of their work or environment, it’s possible that others are at risk too.  This is one more reason why it is important to understand what is causing these illnesses.  We support doctors from all over Switzerland with this often complex search for causes and diagnostics, for example, through consultations with patients.  Our presence at the University of Zurich and the University Hospital Zurich allows us to cover a broad spectrum of illnesses.  We are also an important point of contact when environmental pollution puts the health of patients or the general public at risk.

Our main research priorities are occupational lung diseases and allergies, in particular human breath analysis.

The division offers complete residencies in occupational medicine (Category A + B).
