Short Biography

Enriqueta Vallejo-Yagüe, Dr sc, MSc, Pharm, is a pharmacist, pharmacoepidemiologist and clinical researcher, currently working as postdoctoral researcher at the EBPI. Her research focuses on enhancing person-centred care through health equity and bridging the sex/gender health gap, with special attention to chronic diseases.

She holds a pharmacy degree (master equivalent) from the Complutense University of Madrid, and trained at the Careggi University Hospital, Florence. After 6-7 years conducting drug research and development in the industry (Germany), she undertook a Master in Pharmacoepidemiology and Pharmacovigilance by the University of Alcala, and conducted the master thesis at the Twente Medical School (MST Hospital), The Netherlands. She gained her doctoral degree in pharmacoepidemiology at ETH Zurich, under the supervision of Prof. Andrea M. Burden (2022). Her doctoral research focused on developing real-world evidence on immune mediated diseases, with attention to obesity and sex. During her time at ETH, she funded Wall of Scientists (www.wallofscientists.com), together with Fatma Abdi and Oli Walker, and the project was awarded the 2022 ETH Diversity Award. Afterwards, she was team leader and postdoctoral researcher at the Institute of Primary Health Care (BIHAM), University of Bern. There she was clinical trial coordinator and project manager of the SNF-funded DROPIT Trial, conducted self-driven research on health equity, and led the enhancement of sex/gender in the Master’s of Pharmacy. 

At EBPI, she works on the NRP83 SNF-funded project titled “Gender & Life Course in Multiple Sclerosis (GeLiCo-MS): A gender-based life course perspective to improve health determinants and disease management”; in the Swiss Multiple Sclerosis Registry (SMSR), with close collaboration with the Digital & Mobile Health group, head by Prof Viktor von Wyl.

She is co-president of the Swiss Society for Gender Health (SSGH), and member of the leadership team of the Health Equity and Diversity Special Interest Group at the International Society for Pharmacoepidemiology (ISPE).
