Processed meat is classified as a carcinogen by the cancer agency of the World Health Organization

Professor Sabine Rohrmann was a member of the World Health Organization’s International Agency for Research on Cancer (IARC) committee that evaluated
the associations between processed meat consumption and cancer, as well as red meat consumption and cancer. Working together with a group of 22 experts from
10 countries, processed meat was classified as a carcinogen to humans based on sufficient evidence while red meat was classified as probably carcinogenic to humans based on limited evidence.

You can hear Prof. Rohrmann speaking about the findings on SRF radio.

A summary of the report is available in the Lancet Oncology.
