I joined the Biostatistics Department in September 2010 as a scientific coordinator of the Master in Biostatistics program of the University of Zurich. I was responsible for the administrative and scientific coordination of the PhD Program in Epidemiology and Biostatistics from 2013 to 2018. For both programs I participated in the setup of structures and teaching concepts and I was in charge of implementing them in the starting phase of the programs and I still participate in the teaching for both programs.

Since 2018 I helped to conceptualize and create the Center for Reproducible Science (www.crs.uzh.ch) of the University of Zurich, I am now its managing director.

I enjoy reading and discussing about statistics, reproducibility and open science etc. on Twitter using my handle @furrer_ebpi.

Before joining the institute I was a Postdoc in statistical climatology in Quebec and Colorado and a statistician at the Nestlé research center near Lausanne. I received my Ph.D. in Statistics in 2001 at EPF Lausanne and my diploma in Mathematics in 1997 at ETH Zurich.

My three sons were born in 2006, 2007 and 2010, they account for the remaining and more turbulent part of my time.
