Short Biography

Jan Fehr, MD, Prof is specialized in internal medicine and infectious diseases with longterm experience in HIV/AIDS, hepatitis and tuberculosis focusing on Global
Health Challenges. He is currently the Head of the Department of Public Health at the Epidemiology, Biostatistics and Prevention Institute at the University of Zurich. Here included is the Travel Medicine Clinic taking care for 20'000 travellers per year. Furthermore, he has an appointment as senior attending physician at the University Hospital Zurich working in the Division of Infectious Diseases and Hospital Epidemiology.
His research is focused on co-infections HIV-tuberculosis and HIV-hepatitis C. He is a member of the Swiss HIV Cohort Study and principal investigator as well as sponsor investigator of several clinical trials successfully published in peer-reviewed journals. Since he was working 2003/04 for the Swiss Tropical and Public Health Institute (SwissTPH) he is involved in research projects in resource limited settings and nowadays leading the academic partnership between the University of Zurich together with their partners at Makerere University in Uganda (www.researchers4globalhealth.org) in the field of medicine.
He is a member of the Swiss Federal Commission for Sexual Health and chairing the working group 'clinic & treatment'. Together with three other hepatitis C experts he is in the writing committee of the hepatitis c treatment guidelines for Switzerland.
